Boxing penguin. (At this point, on Christmas morning, Gray’s tight tight pajamas had cut off his circulation long enough, and he decided to spend the rest of the morning in nothing but a diaper and his new socks (go Middlebury panthers)).

A little holiday laugh.
In case you need a break from my holiday recap, this is it. We’re still working on our Christmas card (which has now turned into a Happy New Year card), but if I were still pregnant it would probably look a little something like one of these. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
My apologies for the lapse in posts…it was unintentional, as I actually was hoping to write a lot this weekend while there were so many other hands to hold Gray.  But, as this year’s life lesson (in the shape of an adorable little man with insanely chubby legs and feet) has taught me, it’s not about me anymore.  So I’m going to try to cover Christmas in a few posts, more...

Green savings.
If you, like me, are trying to keep only the greenest, most natural and organic foods in your home for you and your baby, you’re also probably simultaneously realizing that it costs a pretty penny. I love, love looking for good deals and finding most inexpensive place to buy something, but ironically I’m not a coupon-clipper.  Life moves too fast right now, and I always have too much...

Detoxify your Diet
A really interesting article about what’s in our foods…even the good ones! Our food hasn’t simply become more synthetic than ever before, it’s also laced with ingredients and contaminants that pose distressing health risks. They aren’t like salmonella, e-coli, or other pathogenic pollutants that can cause immediate illness or even death. These toxic impurities are more insidious –...

'Lovey.'
As D is only a few months older than Gray, I feel very connected to all the things you post about. I wanted to share with you one of my new favorite baby items. It’s the Aden & Anais Issie lovey.  It’s a small security blanket, made of breathable muslin, that D now cuddles up to every time he takes a rest. It has the silky edges that I can see him nuzzling and rubbing between his...

'Death by strawberries.'
Do you like strawberries?  Does your baby?  If so, buyer beware. The toxins in methyl iodide are so potent that the chemical is used to grow cancer cells in laboratory settings. It can cause severe brain damage, miscarriages, and thyroid diseases. Thanks to a decision last week by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), this substance could soon be used on the strawberries in...

A 'green' recommendation.
Hi Laura, I’m not a Mom yet, so I haven’t done the amount of research that you have, but have you looked into Whisper Hill products? Everything is made in Quechee, Vermont. I love their beauty products, especially lotions! I know they use some chemicals in some of the products, but not all. Just a thought! Oooooo…nope, I’d never heard of Whisper Hill but I LOVE...

Sad. That makes two of us. Poor Gray looked so sick yesterday, having woken up with glassy, goopy eyes I was sure meant pink eye. Luckily our pediatrician squeezed us in to check on him, and it turns out the poor little guy has another ear infection. Enter nasty pink amoxicillin. Awesome. Sad me because a friend is frustrated with me that we haven’t been able to catch up by...

Toxic toys.
I hate Toys ‘R Us/Babies ‘R Us with a passion, and this only fuels my fire. Although two years ago Toys “R” Us promised to reduce the use of PVC in the toys they sell and to offer more PVC-free products, the store has “not kept its promise.” Their investigation found that 72 percent of the toys tested contained high levels of chlorine, which indicates they...

Who cares where they sleep...as long as they...
A nice note from someone about having Gray in bed with us…it’s amazing how stronly opinionated so many people are, whether your baby is sleeping in a crib, a swing, a chair, a pack ‘n play, or your bed.  A good reminder, for me at least, is that even though everyone has their own opinions about what’s right, or what works, every baby is different. I’ve heard from...

A good reminder, for me at least, is that even though everyone has their own opinions about what’s right, or what works, every baby is different. I’ve heard from...

'TV watching is bad for babies' brains.' Shocker.
A really interesting article about why your baby’s eyes should NOT be looking at the TV. Even in the morning when we’re racing around getting ready and I have the news on, Gray locks right in on the screen, if only for a few fleeting seconds - how could he not? Bright lights and colors and sound…but this is a good reminder that even though we’re not parking him in front of...

'The Little Mister Edition.'
Oooo…I am just thrilled that one of my favorite bloggers is having another baby!  And this time, they’re having a boy! Dear Baby has faithfully chronicled her world as she and her husband welcomed a baby girl, who quickly became the best-dressed baby in San Francisco.  Vintage threads, crocheted dresses and beautiful etsy-finds graced her daughter, and I always looked through her...

The Cowlick debate heard around the world!
I thought that the adorable clockwise cowlick was a famiy thing, as my dad, three brothers, and now son all have a strong clockwise twirl.  As does Jackson and so did his dad. I was ecstatic when Gray was born, trying to get pictures of his tiny cowlick and my dad’s to show the resemblance. Well, apparently cowlicks aren’t as special as I thought. But I did hear from a lot of people...

Great advice from several ‘mom-friends’… Visit www.wholesomebabyfood.com and buy/borrow from me the book Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron.  But, looking back, my biggest piece of advice and the thing that I would do differently this next time is….try not to get too stressed out about feeding.  You definitely do not need to wait a week between offering each new food and you...

The first 12 weeks...
Believe it or not, I recently found out that not one, two, three, or four, but FIVE of my friends are pregnant!  There are going to be a LOT of spring ‘11 babies!! I love it! I was flattered that they all mentioned that they had looked back to my blog to see what my first trimester had been like, now that they were each experiencing it firsthand.  But there’s nothing there, because I...

"I loved the idea of this product at first, but after ordering, I began to have buyers' remorse. After a few weeks of trying to use the Daddle, I'm afraid that I have still not had success and I think it was a waste of money. No amount of duct tape would keep the cat attached to the saddle while...

Hands down one of my favorite things I’ve ever read about being a Mom. To get you started… I Am A Llama Something happens when you become a parent.
